Thank you to our supporters

A big thank you was given to the people who helped to create a dedicated Breast Unit at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

Fundraisers, doctors, nurses and other supporters were welcomed to look around the £650,000 centre at the event, which was held on July 13.

More than 16,000 men and women from across West Norfolk, North Cambridgeshire and South Linconshire are seen at the hospital for breast related conditions.

The spacious new unit offers additional clinic, examination and treatment rooms along with a second ultrasound area and improved office space and reception. A big benefit for the team is the introduction of a dedicated counselling room.

The centre was half funded by donations from patients, friends, relatives and members of staff, and a donation from the Caron Keating Foundation. Charlie Hunniford, brother of broadcaster Gloria, officially opened the unit on May 20.

Consultant Breast Care Surgeon Amy Burger said: “The first few months have gone really well, all the staff are happy with the unit and we have received excellent feedback from patients, who have been really impressed.

“We felt it was important to hold an event to say thank you to everyone who has helped us to create this wonderful unit which is already making a difference.”
