A stunning garden has blossomed for the benefit of cancer patients at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital thanks to the hard work of volunteers.
Generous staff from Tesco Extra Hardwick store have not only been fundraising but have also donated their time to create the Peace and Hope Garden for the benefit of patients on Shouldham Ward.
Green fingered Tesco workers, including Checkout Manager Joyce Manning-Coe and Community Champion Laura Gathercole, are hoping to attract birds to the garden with a range of feeders and planted raised beds. They have also laid gravel.
The garden was officially opened during a ceremony on Thursday, November 3, when the Tesco team were thanked along with sponsors DMG Timber, Foras, MKM King’s Lynn and Simon Rowe from KLFM.
Tesco store manager Andy Thomas said: “I would like to say my colleagues have created a very peaceful garden and we are very humbled by the feedback and support from the hospital staff and patients. We are proud to be supporting our local community.”
This is the second garden to have been created around Shouldham ward after the beach themed Alan Rasberry Peace and Hope Garden was officially opened earlier this year.
Hospital Chief Executive Dorothy Hosein has praised the Tesco team and their supporters for giving up their time to this worthwhile project.
She said: “I would like to thank our friends at Tesco for their hard work in transforming this area of the hospital for the benefit of our patients and their families.
“As a hospital, we are on a journey towards excellence and this would not be possible without our partners in the community.”
