A family has said thank you to the staff at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital for their care of a Wretton man.
Les Payne, (71) a retired electrical engineer and talented artist, was being treated at the hospital’s Critical Care Unit prior to his death in July this year.
His wife Frances along with daughter Chloe and grandsons James (12) and nine-year-old Samuel presented a painting created by Mr Payne to Sister Denise Reid. The couple also have a son David Payne, who was unable to attend.
The family has also donated £540 to the unit’s Staff Fund along with £625 to Great Ormond Street Hospital. The money had been collected at Mr Payne’s funeral.
Mrs Payne said: “I just wanted to say thank you to the staff who work so hard. They are amazing. If I had paid privately, I would not have received better.”
Sister Denise Reid, who received the donations, has thanked the family.
She said: “It was really generous and kind for the family to think of the staff and we would like to say a big thank you.”
