Stuart Howard took on the challenge of cycling from Land’s End to John O’Groats, in 12 days to raise money for The Queen Elizabeth Hospital’s Cancer Care and Treatment Centre.
The 970 mile journey took him along the West Coast, crossing locations such as Loch Ness and the Lake District before arriving at John O’Groats.
The ride which began on the 29th August had a wide range of challenges. He climbed around 50,000 feet during his journey, in ranging weather conditions with the multiple days of riding proving to be a challenge.
The cyclists covered between 80 and 90 miles a day but the penultimate day really tested them, covering 106 miles in the pouring rain.
Stuart had raised money for Macmillan before but this time he wanted to ensure it went to The Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
Stuart said: “I’m really pleased with how much I have been able to raise, for the local centre to help local people. The first few days were difficult because there was a lot of climbing but it was all worth it. I’m very grateful for the support from all colleagues, friends and family. It has been amazing.”
Dawn Slack, Lead Cancer Nurse said: “I would like to personally thank Stuart for the hard work and the challenge he attempted to raise this money for us. We are trying to develop some additional resources for post treatment patients so this money will go a long way towards this goal.”
