QEH Staff enjoy a hog roast thanks to local business

Staff from The Queen Elizabeth Hospital were treated to a free hog roast thanks to the kind donation from the Hungry Hog Roast Company.

Derrick Holmes, who has been cooking hog roasts for over 12 years, 3 of which with the Hungry Hog Roast Company, was inspired to reward QEH staff after seeing the hard work taking place across the NHS.

Hospital staff enjoyed a hog roast or vegetarian alternative with, salad and a jacket potato. The meal was also accompanied by 100 deserts for hospital staff to enjoy.

This isn’t the first time Derrick has supported his community, previously preparing meals for the homeless with Purfleet Trust.

Derrick said: “I really wanted to show my support for the staff and thank them for the marvellous job they’re doing. Slingsby and Sons donated a pig which we are incredibly grateful for as well as our other providers who have supported us. We just wanted to do something to show our support for the hard working NHS staff.”

Catering Manager, Stewart Nimmo said: “Thank you to the Hungry Hog Roast Company for their delicious donation, as well as the providers that supplied the food for them. We have received incredible support from our community since the start of the pandemic which we are all incredibly grateful for.”
