The King’s Lynn and District Provincial Grand Lodge of the Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes has selected The Queen Elizabeth Hospital King’s Lynn’s COVID-19 Support Fund to be its Charity of the Year for 2021.
The money raised by the local philanthropic organisation will contribute to supporting Critical Care Unit (CCU) staff, and theatre staff who have been redeployed to work on the front line during the COVID-19 pandemic, enhancing health and well-being, and contributing towards improving their rest areas.
John Dufton, Provincial Grand Primo of the King’s Lynn and District Provincial Grand Lodge, said: “The NHS has done a fantastic job supporting the community and coping with COVID-19. We wish to do something for the staff in recognition for their remarkable efforts and dedication in saving lives whilst putting themselves at great risk. We will promote this worthwhile cause to our lodges for their support.”
The Buffaloes have a history of generous support for QEH. The organisation raised £4,360 for The Wheely Big Appeal in 2018 which enabled the Trust to purchase three standard and two bariatric wheelchairs to transport patients around the hospital. A further £700 was donated to the hospital’s Falls Support Appeal, contributing towards the purchase of falls prevention and management equipment.
Caroline Shaw, Chief Executive at QEH, said: “We are delighted that our COVID-19 Support Fund has been chosen as the Buffaloes’ Charity of the Year in 2021, and we’re thrilled to further strengthen our relationship following the support of our Wheely Big Appeal in 2018. Faced with challenges, and the expectation that things will continue to be difficult for some months, we know staff will be immensely cheered to hear this news.”
Donations to the appeal can be made at gofund.me/1a77bbdb. Alternatively, cheques can be made payable to ‘KL & District PGL-RAOB’, with reference ‘PGP 2021 Appeal’ on the back of the cheque, and posted to PG Sec. Bro. W Rogers (HM) ROH, 43 Adastral Place, Swaffham, PE37 7RG, or BACS payments can be made to 07-01-06/47357506.
