QEH’s new Outpatient Unit named Emerson Unit following a public vote

We are pleased to announce that the Emerson Unit has been chosen as the name of the new Outpatient Unit at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital King’s Lynn NHS Foundation Trust which is due to open to patients in January 2022.

The name of the unit is in tribute to a much loved and valued Team QEH colleague, Chrissie Emerson, a healthcare assistant at the hospital who sadly died of coronavirus in 2020.

Denise Smith, Chief Operating Officer said: “I am really pleased there was so much support to name the unit from our local community and staff. Chrissie’s sad death impacted the whole QEH family, and we believe naming the unit in her memory is a fitting tribute to her. Chrissie is very much missed by us all.”

The new unit follows £20.6m national emergency capital investment to enhance our facilities and experience for patients, their families and staff. It will include a unit which will bring together outpatient services for Urology, Pain Service, Rheumatology, Gynaecology, Antenatal Care, Obstetric Ultrasound and a Day Assessment Unit for pregnant women.

The poll, which closed midnight Sunday, and had the endorsement of Chrissie’s family, saw Chrissie receive 40% of the 1,241 votes received overall.
