The Queen Elizabeth Hospital King’s Lynn NHS Foundation Trust (QEH) is continuing to celebrate its achievements as it becomes an accredited centre for cardiac science training as part of the Scientist Training Programme (STP).
This accreditation has been granted by The National School of Healthcare Science and is an excellent opportunity for staff to develop their knowledge and skills whilst working at the Trust. This remains our workforce strategy of growing our own staff.

Dr Govindan Raghuraman, Acting Medical Director, said: “We are very proud to have achieved this accreditation for The QEH. Thanks to all the hard work by our cardiology team who are always striving to develop and learn. This is an excellent opportunity for us to develop skills from within and enhance the already excellent staff we have in our Cardiac Diagnostic Service.”
Michaela Dhillon, Cardiac Diagnostic Service Manager, said: “It’s very exciting to have students in the department, and for our skilled professionals to pass on their skills and knowledge to the next generation. The whole department is really engaged with the training. Echocardiography is nationally understaffed, to increase our staff base we must support and encourage the next generation.
“By the end of the STP courses the students will be independent practitioners in Echocardiography with professional accreditation gained or near completion. This is a great opportunity for them personally and professionally, and for The QEH to ’grow our own’. We also owe thanks to other centres in the region, who are assisting by support training in services we do not currently provide in The QEH, including Royal Papworth Hosptial, Addenbrooke’s Hospital and Peterborough City Hospital.”
The STP students qualify after three years with a master’s level degree in Cardiac Science.
Raneem El-Sherif is The QEH’s first STP student and is coming to the end of the first year. She said: “I feel supported and have been provided with fantastic training opportunities. The cardio-respiratory department have been very welcoming, and I am grateful to be part of a fantastic team.”
