The Queen Elizabeth Hospital King’s Lynn NHS Foundation Trust (QEH) has a new addition to its main reception team – in the form of a new public piano.
The piano, which was kindly donated to the Trust by former staff member Cath Castleton and named by her daughter, is called Alicia (after Alicia Keys!).
As one of the only public pianos in the King’s Lynn area, Alicia is available for anyone to play between 8am and 10pm. Budding pianists with the skills to play her are invited to come along and help brighten the day of those at the Trust.
Paul Brooks, Director of Estates and Facilities at the QEH, said: “We all know that music lifts the soul and that’s what we’re hoping to do by introducing Alicia to our team. I am so pleased to have a real piano in the hospital, it’s something we have wanted to do for a long time.
“I’m sure there are lots of staff, patients and visitors who play, and I hope they will start to use it as a regular way of finding a moment of calm and space in the day. Public pianos are really popular, and this is a brilliant resource for our local community. We are proud to now host one at the QEH for everyone to enjoy.”
You can find Alicia in the main reception of the QEH on the right-hand side, just past the reception desk. The piano has a sign with a few rules of use which need to be adhered to.
QEH patients Sarah Peterson took full advantage of the piano while she was in hospital and treated staff to her musical talents.
