Maggie Drew, from Hunstanton, is no stranger to fundraising for The QEH.
The 31-year-old mother of one, who has raised just under £5,000 for the hospital’s charity, turns her latest efforts specifically to the hospitals Critical Care Complex who recently cared for her late mum, Moira.
Moira was diagnosed with Sjogren’s Syndrome in 2009 and was treated at The QEH, spending a lot of time is critical care due to the complexity of her illness.
Maggie said: “I wanted to give something back to them in particular because they helped care for my mum before she died in late July 2020.”
Critical Care, often referred to as Intensive Care, is a specialist unit at the hospital which provides treatment and monitoring for people who are very ill and need 24-hour care.
So far, Maggie has raised over £2,467 for the Critical Care team by hosting a live country music evening at the Snettisham Memorial Hall last month.
Maggie hopes her fundraising efforts will see the Critical Care team able to purchase two Vscan Air ultrasound scanners to improve the quality of care and treatment for patients.
Vscan Air is a wireless handheld ultrasound system that enables whole-body scanning and delivers crystal-clear images in a pocket-sized, dual-probe solution which supports clinicians to make early assessments, monitor treatments, and quickly decide on next steps.
Julie Allen, a Nurse Lead in Critical Care at The QEH, said: “We are so grateful to Maggie and her family for their fundraising efforts. If we can purchase these scanners, it will make such a difference to the care and experience our patients receive.”
Maggie has previously raised money for the hospital’s Dementia Care Appeal and raised over £2,300 by organising other live music events, bake sales, and supermarket collections.
The hospital’s charity helps to enhance patient, carer and staff experience through supporting projects, activities and training over and above that provided by the NHS.
