Sometimes the greatest gift you can give is your time. That’s the message from The Queen Elizabeth Hospital which has launched a fresh drive to find a host of new volunteers across the Trust.
The QEH is looking for new volunteers who can spare a few hours to help support patients, their families, and dedicated staff in a variety of important roles – from driving our new patient buggy to helping out on wards.
Are you a friendly face that can calm anxious patients on the way to their appointment?
Maybe you can help assist patients with their lunch, make a great cup of tea and provide a listening ear? Or maybe you are passionate about breastfeeding and would like to support new parents?
Whatever your skill set, and however much or little time you can give, there is a volunteer role here for you at Team QEH. Join our army of the 180 volunteers by applying today before Friday 3 November.
Alice Webster, CEO, said: “Our volunteers are key members of Team QEH. They make a real difference, and I am proud that we have so many at our hospital who help our patients every single day.”
Jo Rowe, Volunteer manager, said: “We are looking for people of all ages and backgrounds who can dedicate a few hours a week. We have wonderful volunteers here at QEH. They are like a family and good friendships spring from working together, feeling really valued and by knowing they make a such a difference with their time. We offer roles that are flexible to suit each volunteer, so please get in touch.”
Retired RAF Flight Lieut and former commercial pilot David Beveridge is using some of his retirement time by volunteering at The QEH on the front desk one day a week and recently joined the team driving our new patient buggy, which makes getting around our hospital site much easier for those with mobility issues.
David said: “I really enjoy my time volunteering and have settled in really well. Everyone is very friendly and helpful and it’s a nice atmosphere to come into. The best part of the job is feeling like you’re making a difference and trying in any way to lend a hand to the people I come into contact with. The new hospital buggy is a nice project to be involved in.”
