QEH nurse named ‘Best Nurse of the Year’ at awards ceremony

QEH nurse, Tincy Jose, has been awarded the ‘Best Nurse of the Year’ title by MalayalamUK for her exceptional dedication and service.

Tincy, a Charge Nurse in the hospital’s Acute Medical Unit (AMU), attended the glittering Awards Ceremony on Saturday 28 October in Glasgow. She was recognised for dedicating her life to improving the care of Parkinson’s patients following her own diagnosis.

The judging panel recognised Tincy’s sincerity and passion when caring for patients and was amazed to hear of her dedication in raising awareness of the importance of delivering time-critical medication on time, every time, for Parkinson’s patients.

Tincy said: “I am dedicating this award to Parkinson’s community. I am so grateful to MalayalamUK for giving me the opportunity to raise awareness about Parkinson’s disease and living with and working with the disease.”

I am beyond delighted and this is further recognition to the important work we are campaigning towards.

“The credit goes to my family, friends and Team QEH, especially my very own team in AMU.”

Alice Webster, CEO at QEH, said: ““We are so proud to have Tincy here as part of our team at QEH. My personal thanks to Tincy for all she has done and continues to do for our patients and their families.”

Tincy grew up in Oliyappuram, near Koothattukulam, and started her nursing career working at a charitable hospital in Attappadi, a tribal taluk in the Kerala state of India. She re-located to the UK in 2008 and later joined the NHS in 2014.

In 2019 Tincy was diagnosed with Parkinson’s and has since been committed to helping educate colleagues through her own experience.

Tincy is a member of the NHS Professionals’ Living and Working with Parkinson’s group, and has recently won, with her colleagues, the HSJ’s (Health Service Journal) Patient Involvement in Safety Award in collaboration with the Parkinson’s Excellence Network.

Tincy also had the opportunity to represent the Parkinson community at a ministerial meeting held at Westminster earlier this year, where she spoke with MPs about her important work to raise awareness of Parkinson’s disease.

Ends.
