Hunstanton Rotary Club decorated the town in used bras, generously donated by local charity shops and beauty salons, to raise awareness of breast cancer and valuable funds for The Queen Elizabeth Hospital King’s Lynn’s (QEH) Breast Care Unit.
With over 400 bras on display last year, the club raised an amazing £1,300 at the event which has funded a range of equipment, all supporting patients undergoing investigations and treatments for breast cancer at The QEH.
It includes a fridge in the main waiting area so patients can help themselves to free, fresh bottles of water – making patients just that little bit more comfortable and well hydrated
The bras used in the event continued to support another great cause, when they were donated to another charity in Africa which focuses on women’s welfare.
Christine Vernon from Hunstanton Rotary Club said: “We are delighted to announce that following this event, a total of £1,300 was raised. The money has gone towards the purchase of some new equipment for the Breast Care Unit.
“We have also sent over 400 bras, to Africa to help local charities who are involved in women’s welfare. A big thank you goes to everyone for their generous donations especially Peter Byrne and his staff at the Ski Cafe & Bar for their kind hospitality and support.”
This is the third year The Hunstanton Rotary Club hosted its Bra Day, previously helping to purchase new equipment including a new iPad for breast care surgeons to use during r consultations.
Elaine Rudd, Lead Breast Care Nurse at The QEH, said: “We cannot thank Hunstanton Rotary Club enough for their continued support and donations of equipment to the Breast Care Unit.
“Their fundraising efforts, which purchased an iPad, two dressing trolleys and a fridge for bottled water for patients use, all help to improve the patient experience while undergoing investigations and treatments for breast cancer.”
