QEH welcomes Leap Year babies

QEH welcomes five leap year babies into the world on 29 February 2024.

Five babies with the rarest of birthdays have been born at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital, King’s Lynn.

First Leap Year arrival baby girl of Andrea Paedru

Donny, Edie and baby Paedru were amongst the arrivals all safely delivered on Thursday 29 February 2024 sharing a Leap Year birthday that only 0.1% of the world’s population have.

The first of the arrivals was baby girl Paedru who was born at 3.01am at 6lb 1oz to mum Andrea from Wisbech.

The second arrival was Donny Zipfell, to mum Sophie Reeves, 7lb 4oz at 9.43am weighing and the third arrival was Edie Mitchell at 1.05pm weighing 8lb 5oz.

Natalie Francis, 36 from Wisbech, is now a proud mum of five following the arrival of baby Edie. Natalie said: “Having Edie here has been a really nice experience. I was nervous but everyone has been so reassuring. All of the staff have been so kind and helpful.”

Michaela Cullen and baby Edie

Michaela Cullen, deputy ward manager on Brancaster ward, QEH’s maternity ward, said: “It’s been wonderful to welcome these babies on leap year day. It’s a very special day that only comes around once every four years. Congratulations to the parents of the babies we have welcomed today.”

Like DC Comic legend Superman, who was born a Leap Day, their real birthdays only come round once every four years and parents of the QEH newborns will now have to decide on an alternative birthday. Otherwise the five will be aged 64 before they reach their real 16th birthdays.
