Wisbech mother Stacey O’Donnell will taking on the challenge of her lifetime this week as she runs the TCS London Marathon in aid of the charity who saved the lives of her three daughters.

Stacey, who works as a Healthcare Assistant in the Obstetrics and Gynaecology outpatient team at The QEH is a self-confessed ‘non-runner’.

However, her motivation to complete the famous 26-mile challenge is clear – to raise as much money as she can for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) whose team rescued her three daughters when they got into difficultly off the coast of Brancaster.

Their dramatic rescue, which took place in 2013, was featured as part of the BBC programme Saving Lives at Sea – you can watch what happened here.

Stacey explained: “What happened to my girls could have easily been so different, I was just minutes away from losing them all and having my family wiped out.

“I’m not a runner, but I wanted to challenge myself to give back to the RNLI. I owe the heroes there more than I could ever put into words for their heroic actions on that day – I know I’ll make it round.

“I’m nervous about the day, but I know as long as I keep hydrated and stay focused, I’ll do it. I know the atmosphere will be amazing.”
