COVID-19 spring boosters get underway at The QEH

From today (22 April), eligible residents can get their COVID-19 spring booster vaccine at The QEH vaccination hub or at the hospital’s pop up clinic in King’s Lynn town centre.

People aged 75 or over, or children with a weakened immune system, are now able to get the spring booster vaccine to protect themselves from COVID-19.

Those eligible can book online via the NHS Booking Site for either the onsite hub or for the clinic at the former Gifted store at 24 New Conduit Street, King’s Lynn PE30 1DE. Bookings can also be made by calling QEH vaccination team on 01553 214530 Monday to Friday between 8am and 4pm.

Staff at The QEH have already administered more than 600 vaccines to care home residents and housebound patients over the last two weeks.

Pippa Street, Chief Nurse at The QEH, said: “We’re really pleased to be offering this important vaccine again this spring and thank all those who are eligible who have come forward to be vaccinated.

“It’s really important that people get boosted. Over time antibodies begin to fade from previous vaccines or from contracting the virus, so topping-up the vaccine provides the best possible protection for you and your families.”

COVID-19 is still considered a dangerous, life-threatening virus, especially for the elderly and those with a weakened immune system. By getting vaccinated, patients receive extra protection against new variants and reduces the risk of serious illness, being hospitalised, and possible death.

You may be eligible for the vaccine if you have a disorder affecting your immune system, are undergoing immunosuppressive treatment, such as for cancer, or are taking medications that increase your risk of infection. You can check the summary of health conditions, treatments and medications that can cause a weakened immune system on the NHS website.
