QEH launches digital system giving staff access to patient information at touch of a button

Last week The Queen Elizabeth Hospital King’s Lynn (QEH) launched a system, in collaboration with the Norfolk and Waveney Integrated Care System, allowing staff to access a wide range of information they need about a patient in one place – changing the way they can deliver care.

The Shared Care Record (ShCR) brings together information on a patient’s medication, allergies, treatment, and care from a range of organisations in one, safe and secure place.

This system allows QEH staff to see relevant information about someone’s care and medical history from different professionals. This means that, at the touch of a button, they will have access to information they need to make informed decisions about the best treatment for that person.

As well as reducing waiting times and the need for unnecessary procedures, the ShCR means that patients will only have to tell their story once rather than repeating their medical history with potentially sensitive, sometimes uncomfortable, information to every care professional they meet.

QEH Medical Director Rebecca Martin, said: “We are pleased to have launched the Shared Care Record across The QEH after a successful pilot project was carried out to test the system.

“We have already seen first-hand from our teams the difference this can make to the care our staff can provide to their patients – one of our community teams already using the system have reported that access to this information has ‘revolutionised’ the way in which they can provide support to patients as they transition from hospital to home-based care. I know there will be many more stories just like this as we roll this system out.”

The Norfolk and Waveney ShCR is already being used in the other acute hospitals, GP practices, Norfolk County Council and community services. Find out more about this system and the benefits here.

This full launch at The QEH sees the Trust joining these organisations.
