Last Saturday (27 April) members of The Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) staged a job centre take over with one clear mission in mind – to spread the word about the range of careers up for grabs at the Trust.
More than 420 job hunters arrived at the free event in King’s Lynn, eager to find out more about what a career within the NHS can offer. Attendees met passionate Team QEH members from a range of different specialities who gave first-hand insight into the roles and career paths available.
With more than 350 careers available in the NHS with an exciting range of non-clinical roles on offer alongside the traditional clinical roles, like nurses, pharmacists and doctors, there was plenty of food for thought for those who came along.
Andrea James, Talent Engagement Lead at the QEH, was on hand to guide people on the day: “This was our biggest NHS Career’s Clinic yet with double the number of attendees we had at our last event which was wonderful to see. We had a great response to all our stands from specialist clinical roles to apprenticeship training.
“We arranged interviews for 39 Healthcare Assistants, received 44 applications for our catering team and had lots of interest in people wanting to find out more about how to become a Foundation Trust Member. That’s just a small snapshot of the activity from the day.”
Amongst attendees on the day was 17-year-old Jess who came along to find out more about a career as a Physiotherapist. Jess said: “I’ve got GCSEs but I need to decide what to do next and what path to take. Being a Physiotherapist has always interested me. It was great to talk to someone who works as one currently.”
John Syson, Director of People, added: “It is great to see this event was such a success. Thank you to our team members for their hard work and, of course, to those who attended. Whatever your ambition or career goal, at Team QEH we can help you achieve it. If you missed this event, you can visit our QEH website at the range of training and development opportunities we have available and keep an eye out for our next careers event.”
The next NHS Careers Clinic is already being planned and set to take place later this year. Full details will be announced nearer the time and people can visit www.qehkl.nhs.uk/careers to find out the range of roles on offer at The QEH.
