To celebrate their twentieth anniversary, the local construction business voted to support The Macmillan Care & Treatment Centre at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital though a sponsored walk of 10k completed by a dedicated group of 16 employees.

One of the group, who wishes to remain anonymous, shared: “I nominated the QEH’s Macmillan Care and Treatment Centre as our charity of the year because my mother-in-law was looked after by the centre from 2016, when she was first diagnosed with terminal cancer.

“She sadly passed away earlier this year. I decided to nominate the centre because of the care and support she received during her treatment along with the support we all received as a family. I am very happy and proud that my nomination was chosen and that we were able  to raise money for The QEH’s Macmillan  Care and Treatment Centre.”

Aiswarya George, Charge Nurse, said: “Many thanks to Walker Construction Services for their 10K walk to support The QEH’s Macmillan Unit. Your fundraising achievements make a real difference to our patients and their relatives, with the money being used to help them feel more comfortable during a difficult time.”

The Managing Director of the family run business, Mark Walker, said: “We are celebrating 20 years in business this year and to mark this occasion we have chosen to support the Macmillan Care and Treatment Centre at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

“Our first challenge was a 10k walk along the Norfolk Coast, it was a great event, and we all enjoyed taking part to raise money for such a worthy cause. We are planning more throughout this year to raise more money for the centre. Thank you to everyone who has donated so far.”

At the time of publishing, the group has raised £2,815 to help support patients with cancer. To help the team achieve their £3,000 goal, please consider donating to their JustGiving page here.
