This honour highlights QEH’s ground-breaking education programmes that place patient experience at the heart of care.

Nominated by Helen Muncey, Head of Education Faculty, and backed by James Wild, MP for North West Norfolk, QEH’s entry stood out among 918 nominations nationwide.

The hospital’s Caring with Kindness, Bereavement, and Frailty is Everyone’s Business programmes were designed to foster individualised care, drive innovation, and empower staff to think critically. Built around the ‘patient voice’, these initiatives ensure that patient feedback directly informs improvements in care delivery.

Caring with Kindness launched in 2022 in response to patient feedback calling for a more personalised approach to care. More than 600 staff members have already participated, gaining the confidence to challenge existing practices and deliver care with compassion and empathy.

Following its success, the Bereavement programme began in late 2022, helping over 223 staff members develop the skills needed to support patients and families through end-of-life care. The newest addition, Frailty is Everyone’s Business, launched in January 2024, enhances understanding of frailty and evolves based on patient feedback.

Adding to the NHS Parliamentary Awards recognition, the Education Faculty has also been shortlisted for the Best Workplace for Learning and Development at the Nursing Times Workforce Awards. This marks the fourth consecutive year QEH has been acknowledged, underscoring its commitment to creating a dynamic learning environment for staff.

Helen Muncey, Head of the Education Faculty, said: “I’m incredibly proud of our team for their dedication to delivering these impactful programmes. They not only elevate the quality of care for our patients but also actively engage them in shaping their care experience.”

CEO Alice Webster, who initiated Caring With Kindness in 2022, commented: “I am thrilled that our suite of patient experience focused education programmes has received recognition in these two prestigious awards.

“Our aim is always to inspire staff to reflect on their practice and openly discuss care experiences that may not fully reflect the Trust’s values of Fairness, Wellness, and Kindness. By putting ourselves in our patients’ shoes, we ensure their voices drive meaningful improvements in care delivery. Our thanks go to MP James Wild for his enthusiastic support with our NHS Parliamentary Awards nomination.”
