Big birthday bash raises funds for cancer care

Community-spirited Geraldine Rupp turned her recent 60th birthday celebrations into a fun-filled fundraising weekend

She transformed her big birthday bash into a two-day fundraiser for cancer care, raising an impressive £2,300 for Cancer Care and Treatment services which will be split between The Queen Elizabeth Hospital in King’s Lynn (QEH) and the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals (NNUH).

The weekend festivities, held at Geraldine’s home in Beeston, began with a spectacular surprise.

On the Saturday evening, her husband John arranged for a troupe of bagpipers and drummers to welcome guests into a marquee, setting the stage for an unforgettable celebration.

The country and western-themed event saw 110 guests – including Geraldine in an inflatable horse costume and her sisters, nephews, great nephews, nieces, and lifelong friends –  dance the night away to the lively tunes of a local DJ. The evening’s highlight was a sumptuous hog roast enjoyed by all.

The Sunday offered a more relaxed atmosphere for an additional 116 friends and neighbours. Activities included tractor and trailer rides for children, a lunchtime BBQ, a bouncy castle for all ages, and various garden games.

Geraldine expressed her gratitude, saying, “We have many friends who have undergone cancer treatment at our local hospitals, and we wanted to give back in a small way.”

The success of the event was made possible with  support of local businesses:

  • Black Roc Pork provided the Hog Roast, BBQ and salads
  • Jane Howard Catering supplied delicious salads and puddings.
  • Cook Norwich contributed a variety of puddings.
  • Beeston Brewery supplied  real ale to keep the spirits high throughout the weekend.

Geraldine and John extend their heartfelt thanks to everyone who contributed to making the birthday celebration not just memorable but meaningful, by supporting a cause that impacts many in their community.

Ends.
