The Breast of Friends first joined forces back in 2019 as a group of friends who have all been impacted by cancer in some way. They have been raising money for the Breast Care and Chemotherapy Units at the King’s Lynn hospital ever since.
This year’s event, which took place in September at Briarfields Hotel in Titchwell was attended by 180 guests. The fundraiser was spearheaded by husband and wife Paul, and Jeanette Kidd, an inspiring couple from Hunstanton, who have been involved in the fundraising group, Breast of Friends, for the past six years.
Jeanette, age 59, had her own battle with breast cancer in2016, when she was diagnosed and treated under the care of Miss Amy Burger, Oncoplastic Breast Surgeon at the Trust. Following her surgery, she received chemotherapy at the hospital. Now in remission, Jeanette has been cancer-free for eight years, and she and her husband have been committed to giving back to the hospital as a gesture of gratitude for the exceptional care she received.
Paul and Jeanette, who have raised over £74,000 to date through various fundraising efforts, organised the ball as part of their ongoing mission to support cancer patients. Last year’s event raised £19,000, making this year’s £24,000 total a significant success.
Paul expressed his gratitude to the hospital, saying: “We’re just so appreciative to The QEH for everything they have done, and we felt we had to give something back by way of saying thank you. The care and treatment my wife received was brilliant, and all of the staff were amazing. Amy gave me my wife back.”
Jeanette echoed his sentiments, adding: “I am so grateful to The QEH and all of the staff involved in my care and treatment. I’ve now been clear for eight years and I owe it all to the hospital. It’s so important for me to give back and to help others going through a similar journey.”
The funds raised at this year’s event will go toward supporting cancer care services at The QEH, ensuring that other patients can receive the same level of care that helped Jeanette through her own battle with cancer.
End.
