The funds were generated through the club attendance at the annual Hunstanton Soapbox Derby, which raised £840, with the remaining amount donated directly by the club.
The funds were formally handed over by Lions Club president Jane Scott, a dedicated member for 15 years who has served as president for the past two years, and by long-standing Lion Paul Southerton, who has over 30 years of service, including four years with the Hunstanton Lions.
For many of the club members, this cause is especially personal, as several have either received care or are currently undergoing treatment at The QEH’s Macmillan Cancer Care and Treatment Centre. Known for over 40 years of community service, the club’s donation reflects its continued dedication to making a positive impact where it’s most needed.
Jane Scott, who has also volunteered at The QEH over the past year, expressed gratitude for the exceptional care provided by the cancer unit staff, noting: “The club is indebted to the work undertaken every day at the treatment centre. The staff are so compassionate and caring – nothing is too much trouble.”
Aiswarya (Ash) George, Charge Nurse at The QEH’s cancer unit, voiced her appreciation for the Lions’ support. She said: “The funds will go towards purchasing a vital vein scanner to assist patients who experience difficulties during treatment, making their care more comfortable and efficient.”
The Lions’ contribution is a meaningful step towards enhancing patient care and comfort at the centre, exemplifying the club’s dedication to the community and to the Lions international motto, ‘where there’s a need, there’s a lion.’
