EPIC Moves, Better Lives Appeal

The QEH King’s Lynn Charity has launched an exciting new appeal — EPIC Moves, Better Lives — aiming to raise £20,000 to bring transformative reconditioning and exercise therapy directly to hospital patients.

Working in partnership with EPIC Norfolk, a social enterprise dedicated to improving lives through physical activity, the appeal will support frail and cognitively impaired patients by funding specialised mood-boosting exercise sessions designed to help people stay active, build strength, and maintain independence.

Each year, approximately 1,400 patients at The QEH are affected by dementia and frailty. For these patients, exercise therapy has proven benefits: it eases symptoms associated with dementia, reduces the need for medication to manage sleep, mood, and anxiety, and encourages engagement and movement.

This is where EPIC Moves, Better Lives can make a real difference, providing patients with therapies that improve quality of life and elevate their experience at QEH.

Dr. Katie Honney, Clinical Director for Integrated Care of Older Persons and Clinical Lead for the charity appeal, spoke on the value of the programme: “We’re immensely grateful to everyone who supports this vital campaign. With these funds, patients living with dementia and frailty will benefit from tailored therapies that improve their physical health and enhance their psychological wellbeing.”

Rachel Burridge, Consultant Nurse for Frailty, shared the impact she’s seen first-hand: “Exercise therapy lifts our patients’ spirits, helping them regain balance, and stay engaged and positive. It’s wonderful to see them reminisce about past sports and hobbies with the EPIC Norfolk Exercise Specialists. This programme makes their hospital stay more enjoyable and empowering.”

The QEHKL Charity is calling on individuals and local organisations to help reach the £20,000 target and bring the lasting benefits of exercise therapy to patients at QEH.

This programme will not only offer physical benefits but will allow staff to share best practice across the Trust, contributing to a culture of enhanced, compassionate care.
