Join the conversation: The QEH hosts Dementia Fair this May

The Queen Elizabeth Hospital King’s Lynn (QEH) will host a Dementia Fair on Friday 9 May 2025, bringing together healthcare professionals, community services and local organisations to raise awareness and share support for those affected by dementia.

Taking place from 11am to 2pm, the event will be held at The QEH and is open to patients, carers and families. It aims to shine a spotlight on dementia care, prevention, and support available in the community and from the hospital.

The agenda includes expert talks from local leaders in the field including:

  • Dr Katie Honney, Consultant Geriatrician and Clinical Lead for dementia care at The QEH, offering an insight into the clinical aspects of dementia and health promotion
  • PC Chloe Geary, from West Norfolk’s Neighbourhood Policing Team, explaining how the Herbert Protocol helps protect vulnerable individuals
  • Dr Kathryn Sams, Specialist Clinical Psychologist from Norfolk’s Older Peoples Services, providing a Memory Clinic update
  • Toni Platts, Associate Director of Nursing for the New QEH, discussing how dementia friendly design is being built into the new hospital plans
  • Steve Hitchen, Director at EPIC Norfolk, on the benefits of exercise therapy for people living with dementia.

In addition to the talks, attendees can explore a marketplace of friendly stalls and meet with local support groups and charities including Age UK, Alzheimer’s Society, Dementia UK, Norfolk Police, Hospital Radio Lynn, and many more.

Dr Katie Honney, Clinical Lead for dementia care at The QEH, said: “We are all likely to  encounter people living with dementia or cognitive impairment, it is therefore critical that we all have some understanding of how this can impact the person and their care givers.

“Our Dementia Fair will offer an immersive experience in which you can learn more about the condition and ways in which we can support those affected to live well.”

The event is free to attend, but spaces must be booked in advanced by visiting www.qehkl.nhs.uk/dementia-fair
