QEH Delivery Suite relocates as safety work completes

Today (Monday 16 June) one of the spaces where women go to give birth at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) in King’s Lynn has moved back to its original location after safety works have been completed.

The Central Delivery Suite (CDS) is returning to its original space after safety works

The Central Delivery Suite (CDS) is returning to the first floor of the hospital in area six – opposite Castle Acre ward – after a period of relocation to allow for essential works to take place on the unit. The Midwife Led Birthing Unit (MLBU) and Butterfly Suite will also be moved back to their original locations.

Essential failsafe work has been completed and the whole unit has been newly decorated and refurbished. The new CDS is open now for families with signs in place throughout the main corridors to direct people to the right place.

The area is now fully operational and the team there welcomed their first baby this morning.

These safety works are part of the Trust’s rolling Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (RAAC) programme to install steel and timber support props across the first floor of the hospital to maximise safety for patients, visitors, and staff.

Esther Dorken, Head of Midwifery and Nursing said: “We are pleased to be relocating our CDS back to its original space following these essential works to help keep our families and staff safe.

“We understand that women, birthing people and their families may have some anxiety about how to get to the CDS following this move and we are doing all we can to make this journey as easy as possible. If you have any concerns on how to find us, please do get in touch with our Maternity Team, the safety of our patients is always our top priority.”
