Last month, foundation year 2 post-graduate (FY2) doctor, Rapik Mangaser was awarded the Outstanding Contribution for Living Our Values Award for offering outstanding patient care and going beyond the call of duty.
Rapik, who’s been at The QEH since August 2023, has worked across a variety of specialities including geriatric medicine, surgery, orthopaedics and acute medicine.
He was surprised by Medical Director Rebecca Martin and his colleagues as he was presented with his award while working on the Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) Unit. Rapik’s winning nomination shared how he went above and beyond to care and support one of his patients who was admitted to SDEC.
The nomination, received from the patients relative, said: “A family member was seen by Dr Manganeser in SDEC after being sent by the GP for urgent investigation. He was reassuring, and kind, and explained what the plan of action was as well as the possible diagnosis. At such a worrying and uncertain time, it was so nice to have someone so understanding and empathetic. He arranged for a bed for an overnight stay and managed to get a scan completed on the same day.
“Following admittance to West Raynham the Dr continued to review his condition regularly and chased required scans several times to ensure they happened and to expedite diagnosis and treatment. I was struck by how kind and caring he was, and how he explained everything so thoroughly. He was so down to earth and kept us informed at every turn, he also checked on us every time he walked past and made sure we were ok, constantly putting us at ease and relieving the worry that we had. All drs should be like Rapik, his bedside manner was amazing, and you could tell he loved his job and his patients. Thank you for your care and compassion Rapik, it was so appreciated.”
Rapik, who was overwhelmed by the award said: “Thank you. That’s very kind of everyone. I’m very shy and don’t usually do this kind of thing but I’m very grateful to be recognised.”
At The QEH we believe that it is important for every member of Team QEH to be recognised when they go above and beyond their duties, whether this be a clinical or non-clinical role. If you know somebody working at the Trust who demonstrates our values of Kindness, Wellness and Fairness in their actions please do nominate them a ‘Living Our Values’ awards here.
