Our statement – NHS National Oversight Framework data

Our patients deserve the highest standards of care, and we are sorry that in some of our performance areas, as reported in the National Oversight Framework data, we have fallen short. We recognise and take very seriously any concerns raised about The Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

Immediate steps are being taken to address the issues. We are working closely within our newly formed Norfolk and Waveney University Hospitals Group, as well as with NHS England and regulators to deliver urgent improvements.

An experienced Executive Managing Director, Chris Bown, has been appointed to lead the hospital team, bringing a strong track record of turning around financially and operationally distressed hospitals.

Measures already in place include:

  • A clear financial improvement plan
  • Steps to reduce long wait times in our Emergency Department (ED) by recruiting more specialist ED consultants
  • We have plans to create an urgent treatment centre in 2026 to take pressure off our front door
  • We are improving flow throughout the hospital, through a variety of programmes working with exemplar NHS organisations to embed sustainable change
  • We are tackling our delays in our cancer and diagnostic waits by insourcing specialist support to increase capacity in a flexible, cost-effective way

Our staff work tirelessly under very challenging circumstances, and we are committed to supporting them as we make the necessary changes.
