They took on the challenge to walk from Swaffham to Holme-next-the-Sea and raised an incredible £8,535.95 (including Gift Aid).
The challenge began at 6.30am on Saturday 27 September, with walkers crossing the finish line to a proud and emotional reception at 6.10pm. Friends, family, and relatives of patients previously cared for on the unit turned out in support – cheering the team on at key milestones throughout the day and lining the finish line to celebrate their remarkable achievement.
The scenic route, following the ancient Peddars Way trail, echoed the mission of the unit it supports: to offer a peaceful and dignified environment for patients in the final stages of life, surrounded by comfort and care.
The Peddars Way Unit opened in December 2024 and offers a calm, home-like setting for those too unwell to return home or transfer to a hospice.
All funds raised from the walk will go directly towards enhancing the environment within the unit – helping to add soft furnishings, calming décor, and other thoughtful touches that make a big difference to patients and their families.
Pippa Steet, Chief Nurse at The QEH, said: “We are incredibly proud of every single member of the team who took part in this walk. Their commitment, energy, and compassion, both in their day jobs and through this challenge, are truly inspiring.
“The generosity shown through the donations received will have a lasting impact on the Peddars Way Unit and the patients we care for. These funds will help us continue to create a space that feels peaceful, personal, and comforting during life’s most difficult moments.
“On behalf of the hospital, and the many families this will help – thank you.”
The Peddars Way Unit was funded by the hospital’s QEHKL Charity with support from the King’s Lynn Hospitals League of Friends Charity. With five en-suite rooms named Blossom, Lavender, Meadow, Oak, and Willow, the unit places privacy and dignity at the heart of its care.
To support the ongoing development of the Peddars Way Unit and other vital hospital projects, donations can still be made via the team’s fundraising page: https://www.justgiving.com/campaign/qehkl-charity-peddars-way-walk-2025
