Endoscopy services meet high-quality standards

The QEH endoscopy services have been accredited by the Royal College of Physicians after meeting best practice quality standards.

The QEH Endoscopy Unit opened in September 2022. It carries out a range of procedures that allow clinicians to see inside the body to investigate symptoms, confirm diagnoses and deliver specific treatments.

In the last year almost 10,000 patients have used the endoscopy services provided by The QEH for their care.

To achieve the Royal College of Physicians JAG (Joint Advisory Group) status endoscopy services were reviewed in January and officially awarded in February 2026. The status lasts for one year.

JAG sets standards for competence in endoscopic procedure ensuring high standards in clinical quality encompassing safe and effective diagnosis, treatment and ongoing management.

Accreditation also focuses on patient experience including reviewing waiting times, facilities and the environment.

JAG status also checks the effectiveness of the endoscopy workforce, including that there is effective training and support, including the recruitment, retention and continued professional development of staff.

Helen Smith, QEH Lead Nurse Manager for Theatres/ Endoscopy, said: “I am so proud of our teams for ensuring that we continue to deliver the safe and quality care for our patients. This accreditation means that we have been recognised for providing efficient, patient-centered care.”

Rebecca Martin, QEH Medical Director, said:  “The accreditation is something that our teams work hard to achieve. The care they provide each and every day is reflected in this achievement. It shows our commitment to delivering the best care possible for our patients.”
