The Queen Elizabeth Hospital King’s Lynn has been recognised nationally for its continued support to the Armed Forces community after securing revalidation of the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) Gold Award for a further five years.

The award – the highest recognition presented by the Ministry of Defence to supportive employers – was presented by the HM Lord Lieutenant of Norfolk, Lady Dannatt, at an event held at Norwich Army Reserve Centre on 5 March.

The certificate was accepted on behalf of the Trust by Professor Lesley Dwyer, Group Chief Executive, and Carly West-Burnham, QEH Director of Strategy and Integration and Trust lead for the Armed Forces programme.

Professor Lesley Dwyer said: “We are incredibly proud to receive this Gold Award revalidation. Supporting the Armed Forces community is part of who we are as an organisation.

“Veterans and reservists bring leadership, resilience and invaluable experience to our workforce, and we are committed to ensuring they and their families feel supported both as colleagues and as patients.”

Carly West-Burnham added: “This recognition reflects the dedication of colleagues across the Trust who champion our Armed Forces and Veterans programme. Through strong partnerships with organisations such as RAF Marham and the work of our Armed Forces Champions network, we are proud to support those who serve and have served.”

Lady Dannatt said: “The strength of our Armed Forces is supported not only by those who serve, but by employers who enable them to balance military service with civilian careers. The Queen Elizabeth Hospital is a powerful example of that commitment in action.”

The revalidation recognises the Trust’s continued work to support serving personnel, veterans, reservists and their families, including:

  • championing the Armed Forces Covenant
  • supporting colleagues from Armed Forces backgrounds
  • working with military organisations and charities
  • creating opportunities for veterans, reservists and cadets

The achievement also builds on the Trust’s Veteran Aware accreditation, recognising its commitment to delivering high-quality care for veterans and their families.
