The Friends, who have each been touched by breast cancer, hosted the event in Outwell Village Hall near Wisbech, raising a jackpot of funds which will go to the QEHKL Charity’s Breast Care Unit and Cancer Care Treatment funds.
The group which has also been named as finalists in the Your Local Hero Awards are long‑standing fundraising champions, dedicated to enhancing care for breast cancer patients at the hospital and continue to make a meaningful difference to patients undergoing treatment at QEH.
Their donations help to fund amazing activities such as The Physical Activity Assessment Programme (PAAP), which introduces gentle exercise such as yoga and Pilates to cancer patients to aid in recovery and fitness.
Another of their cherished initiatives is the popular Kindness Corner, which provides patients with additional personal care items including body lotions, skincare products and cosmetics. These thoughtful touches help brighten patients’ days and support their wellbeing during challenging times.
The Casino Night, held on Saturday 28 February, brought together members of the Breast of Friends along with family and friends for an evening of entertainment featuring casino games and live music. The event raised an impressive £2,400.
Event organiser Becky Bowman (pictured second from left) was thrilled so many people attended to enjoy the evening: “Organising and running the casino night was an incredibly rewarding experience. It was amazing to see so many people come together for an evening filled with fun, laughter, and music for such a fantastic cause. The atmosphere was truly special, and it was heartwarming to watch the community connect and enjoy themselves while supporting such a meaningful cause.
“Thanks to everyone’s generosity and support, we raised an incredible £2,400 for the charity, making the night even more special and impactful.”
Breast of Friends was founded in 2019 by friends during their breast cancer journey. Members of the charity recently visited The QEH to celebrate an outstanding milestone – raising £43,000 in 2025.
During their visit, they were welcomed by Interim Chief Nurse Dawn Collins, who praised their extraordinary dedication. She said: “These really are wonderful and exceptional ladies. Lived experience is such a vital part of how we care for our patients. This person‑centred approach allows care to be considerate and compassionate. We cannot thank this wonderful group of brave women enough for what they do to support our hospital.”
With their continued commitment and tireless fundraising efforts, the Breast of Friends remain an invaluable support to QEH and the local community they serve.
All upcoming charity events can be found on both the QEHKL Charity and Breast of Friends websites.
