Help shape the future of our hospitals as a governor

Patients, local residents and staff are being invited to stand as governors and help shape the future of Norfolk’s hospitals.

Governors represent the views of patients, members and local communities, and influence important decisions about how hospitals work.

We are looking for people from a wide range of backgrounds who care about local health services and want to make a difference. What matters most is a commitment to your community, an interest in improving services, and a willingness to represent the views of local people.

Opportunities are available at the James Paget University Hospitals, the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals and the Queen Elizabeth Hospital King’s Lynn.

David Roberts, Group Chair of the Norfolk and Waveney University Hospitals Group, said: “Our governors play a vital role in helping to improve the services we provide.

“We are at an important moment. Work is progressing to build two new hospitals; we are making significant investments in technology; and all three hospital trusts are now working together as one group to improve patient care for local residents.

“If you want to be part of the journey and make a difference for patients, families and communities, I encourage you to stand for election.”

  • Who can stand for election? Anyone aged 16 or over can self-nominate and stand for election. As part of the process, you will need to be a member of the hospital trust. The easiest way become a member is to apply online – it is quick and free to do.
  • Help shape care in your community: Play a part in influencing the future of our hospitals and how they work with other health and care organisations.
  • Your commitment: Governors have important duties to fulfil; they provide feedback to the hospital about the views of the public and patients, and they have meetings to attend, but they can contribute as much time as they are able. Training and support is provided.
  • Make a real difference: Hold the hospital’s leadership to account and help improve patient care and services as we work to modernise healthcare for future generations.
  • Gain valuable experience: Develop skills in governance and teamwork as part of the Council of Governors, while enhancing your knowledge of the NHS and how hospitals work.
