Travis Toll, 29, from King’s Lynn, whose dedication has captured the hearts of friends, family, and supporters alike, has undertaken half marathon challenges to honour his uncle, who was cared for by The QEH Critical Care Unit (CCU), which provides life-saving treatment and constant monitoring for critically ill patients with severe or life-threatening conditions.
Travis’s uncle was treated for heart failure for three years at The QEH before he died. Motivated by gratitude for the care his uncle received and a desire to give back, Travis set himself the goal of raising money to support the unit’s vital work.
Reflecting on his journey, Travis said: “The care and compassion shown to my uncle and our family meant so much during an incredibly difficult time. Running these races was my way of saying thank you and keeping his memory alive. Every step was for him.”
Completing multiple half marathons required determination, resilience, and extensive training, but Travis remained focused on his mission. Supporters rallied behind him throughout, contributing donations and messages of encouragement that helped him reach and surpass his fundraising goal of £1,000, ultimately raising an impressive £1,565.
The funds raised will contribute to the continued delivery of high-quality care within the hospital’s CCU, supporting both patients and their families during critical and often life-changing moments. Donations like Travis’s help fund essential equipment, enhance patient comfort, and provide additional resources for staff delivering frontline care.
Dr Hassel, ICU Consultant, who cared for Travis’ uncle at The QEH, expressed heartfelt appreciation for Travis’s efforts: “We are incredibly grateful to Travis for his dedication and generosity. Fundraising like this makes a meaningful difference and allows us to continue providing exceptional care to our patients. It is especially moving to see such a thoughtful tribute in memory of a loved one.”
Though proud of what he has achieved so far, Travis has no plans to slow down. He has already set his sights on his next challenge: a charity cycling event from London to Brighton. The iconic route, known for its scenic views and demanding climbs, will present a new challenge, but one Travis is eager to take on in support of the same cause.
“I wanted to continue the momentum and do something different,” he said. “Cycling from London to Brighton felt like the perfect next step. I’m excited for the challenge and to keep raising awareness and funds for such an important cause.”
Travis hopes his story will inspire others to support charitable causes close to their hearts, whether through fundraising, volunteering, or simply spreading awareness.
As preparations begin for his upcoming ride, Travis remains focused on his mission: honouring his uncle’s memory and supporting the healthcare professionals who make a difference every day.
