Members past and present gathered at the station on Friday 18 September to congratulate Mike on reaching the remarkable milestone.
Mike first joined Hospital Radio Lynn 25 years ago and has made a lasting contribution to the station both on and off air. He served as a trustee for several years, including a period as the station’s treasurer, before continuing his work behind the microphone.
Mike currently presents a regular two-hour programme every Friday afternoon. The show includes an hour dedicated entirely to music from the 1960s, a decade of music for which Mike has an extraordinary knowledge and enthusiasm.
Ask Mike about 60s music and there is a good chance he will know the answer. From the songs and artists to the stories behind the records, his knowledge has become something of a fixture of his weekly programme.
To mark his 25 years of service, Mike was presented with a long-service certificate by fellow long-serving Hospital Radio Lynn volunteer Max Mitchell.
The celebration also included a series of audio tributes from former Hospital Radio Lynn volunteers, as well as a special message from Alan Dedicoat, patron of the Hospital Broadcasting Association and a familiar voice to millions of listeners through his broadcasting career.
Friends and colleagues who have been part of Mike’s Hospital Radio Lynn journey over the years also came along to share the occasion and congratulate him on his achievement.
Hospital Radio Lynn Chair David Llewellyn said, “Mike has given 25 years of his time to Hospital Radio Lynn and has played an important part in the station throughout that time. Whether he was looking after the finances as treasurer or sharing his passion for music with our listeners, Mike has always been someone the station could rely on.
“His knowledge of 60s music is quite something. There really doesn’t seem to be much he doesn’t know. We were delighted to have the opportunity to celebrate his 25 years with him and to bring together people who have been part of his Hospital Radio Lynn journey.”
Mike’s Friday afternoon programme continues to give listeners the chance to hear some of the greatest music of the 1960s, alongside the stories, facts and memories that Mike has collected throughout his years as a music enthusiast and broadcaster.
Hospital Radio Lynn would like to congratulate Mike on 25 years of service and thank him for everything he has given to the station.
