Staff at The QEH go the extra mile for children’s therapy with inflatable 10K run

Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists from the Children’s Therapy team at The QEH are taking on an inflatable obstacle-filled 10K run to raise funds for children’s therapy services.

On 17 October, members of the team swapped the therapy room for an action-packed inflatable course, tackling giant obstacles, slides and bounce zones along the way. To add to the fun, the team will be dressing up as much-loved children’s characters from Disney’s Toy Story films, bringing smiles to participants and spectators alike.

The challenge was organised by staff at The QEH to raise funds for specialist therapy equipment, resources and toys that help children get the most from their therapy sessions.

The team hopes the money raised will contribute towards the purchase of toys and games including Jenga, Pop It In The Post and a Race Car Construction Set. These engaging therapy tools help children develop fine motor skills and build independence in everyday activities such as dressing, feeding, handwriting and toileting. They also help make therapy sessions as fun and interactive as possible.

Laura Fisher, a Paediatric Occupational Therapist at the hospital, said: “Our team supports babies, children and young people with a range of developmental, physical and neurological needs. Having additional equipment and toys can make a huge difference in helping children develop their movement, coordination, strength, independence and everyday skills in a fun and motivating way.”

Lauren Askew, a Physiotherapist at The QEH, added: “We’re all really excited to take on the inflatable 10K together, and dressing up in fancy dress will make the day even more fun! It’s going to be a brilliant challenge and, most importantly, a great way to raise money to help us provide even more engaging resources for the children and young people we support.”

The team’s efforts have already raised a welcome £235, marking a positive start towards their £2,500 fundraising goal.

Anyone wishing to support the Children’s Therapy Team can donate via their JustGiving page: https://www.justgiving.com/page/10k-inflatable-run-for-childrens-therapy

Every donation will help the team enhance therapy sessions and provide additional resources that support children and young people on their journey to reaching their full potential.
