The future of apprenticeships at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital, King’s Lynn has been protected after an agreement between the Joint Staff Side Committee and The Trust was recently signed.
The Apprenticeship Agreement is a mutual contract between the unions and the Trust, designed to enhance partnership working. It makes sure policies and procedures are followed, in line with staff policies, while providing another way to negotiate terms and conditions for apprentices. The agreement is designed to develop people, so they ultimately achieve permanent roles within The Trust or National Health Service.
The Apprenticeship Agreement means potential candidates can be safe in the knowledge that the correct support will be in place for them, and provides a voice within the work place. It will also showcase The Trust as a fantastic starting place for an apprentice’s career.
Dorothy Hosein, Chief Executive at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital commented: “We are passionate about developing people here, in this case, the future of not only this hospital, but the community we serve. I was pleased to sign the Apprentice Agreement, as it sures up what we already do – develop and nurture a talented new workforce that’s committed, positive and ready to embrace change on our journey of improvement.“
Darren Barber, Joint Staff Side Committee Lead at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital said: “From a UNISON point of view, this is a great way of us showing how we look after our apprentices. After being involved with the 2014 Brathay Apprenticeship Challenge Team and seeing all of their personal achievements, I felt this was a great opportunity to plan for the future of our apprentices. Having the unions and The Trust working together can make this the first choice for school and college leavers.”
Sharon Carter, Apprentice Coordinator at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital went on to say: “I’ve been honoured to see so many apprentices begin their careers with us, and we’re delighted that so many choose to stay after they’ve qualified. The Apprentice Agreement shows we are committed to looking after our employees properly and see them as a very valuable part of our team as we aim for excellence.”
