A couple from Ashwicken have donated £1,000 to give something back to the Cancer Treatment and Care Fund of Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
Janet and John Newman wanted to say thank you to the staff at the hospital’s Macmillan Centre.
In October last year, Mrs Newman was diagnosed with Lymphoma and had been cared for at the centre along with Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge.
The couple’s friends in the Manor of Stockwell Masonic Lodge 4746 in London donated £500 from their charity fund to the centre and a further £500 was added by retired policeman, Mr Newman.
Mrs Newman, who finished treatment in June, said: “I wanted to do something to thank the staff as they have always been so thoughtful, kind and supportive.
“I felt so comfortable here and everyone was so friendly.”
Mr Newman, who has also thanked members of the Lenne Lodge 4251 in King’s Lynn for their help and support during a difficult time, added: “What impressed me is that everyone here is always smiling.”
The couple handed over the two cheques to Charge Nurse Jayne Miller and fundraising executive Laurence Morlaàs.
