The QEH will be holding a free special diabetes healthcare event for residents in King’s Lynn and West Norfolk on Thursday 13 July 2023 in a bid to raise awareness and prevention.

Already 66,000 adults in Norfolk and Waveney have been confirmed as having this serious health condition and it’s a growing concern nationally as cases topped five million for the first time.

Without the right care and support, people can be at risk of developing serious complications. Each week diabetes leads to 184 amputations, more than 770 strokes, 590 heart attacks and 2,300 cases of heart failure.

At The QEH, clinical experts are working closely with colleagues throughout the NHS Norfolk and Waveney healthcare system to identify those people at risk of Type 2 diabetes, reduce health inequalities and target communities where diabetes prevalence is high.

It is thought that around 110,000 adults in our region could be at very high risk of living with undiagnosed Type 2 Diabetes.

The special healthcare event will take place at the Duke’s Head Hotel, on King’s Lynn’s Tuesday Market Square, on Thursday 13 July, between 6pm and 8pm.

Spaces are limited so booking is advised. Register your interest by scanning the QR code above or clicking here. Refreshments and free parking are available.

Join QEH for an evening of education and awareness about diabetes prevention and will be hosted by the Trust’s new Lead Governor Dr Antonia Hardcastle who’s goal is to raise awareness about diabetes and provide information on how to prevent it and what can happen to us if it becomes severe.

Other expert speakers include Dr Clare Hambling, GP and Clinical Advisor for Diabetes and Obesity at Norfolk and Waveney Integrated Care Board (ICB), Heather Leishman, Clinical Programme Manager Diabetes at NHS Norfolk and Waveney ICB,  Shyam Seshadri, QEH Consultant and Clinical Director, Diabetes and Endocrinology, and Firas Haddadin, QEH Consultant, Diabetes and Endocrine.
